Five Copa del Rey games which were postponed after deadly flooding in Valencia have been rescheduled for a second time, as recovery efforts continue in the region.
The first round matches — including Valencia‘s tie at Parla and Levante’s at Pontevedra — were originally due to take place last week, before devastating flash floods left at least 217 people dead.
The ties were initially postponed until this week, but the Spanish football federation (RFEF) confirmed on Monday that the fixtures would be pushed back further, to later this month, as emergency services and the army continue to work on recovery and reconstruction in a number of locations around Valencia.
Valencia are now due to visit Parla on Nov. 26 and Manises, based in a town on the outskirts of Valencia, will host Getafe that same day.
Ejea will play Hércules on Nov. 14, and Levante will play Pontevedra on Nov. 19. A date for Real Sociedad‘s tie at Jove Español has not yet been set.
Valencia’s LaLiga game with Real Madrid, which was due to be played last Saturday, was also postponed to a later date, as well as Villarreal‘s match with Rayo Vallecano.
Flood waters swept through the Valencia region after heavy rainfall on Oct. 29, with the full scale of the loss of life and damage to homes, businesses and transport links becoming apparent in the following days.
A number of players and coaches have argued that all football in Spain should have been put on hold over the weekend, including Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti.
