The New York Rangers are trading Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey to the Colorado Avalanche for Juuso Parssinen, Calvin de Haan and a second- and fourth-round draft pick in the 2025 NHL draft. Sources said the second-round pick is the better of Carolina‘s or the Rangers’ second-round pick this year. The fourth-round pick is the better of Colorado’s or Vancouver‘s this year, according to sources.
The Rangers are retaining 50% of Lindgren’s $4.5 million cap hit as part of the deal. The defenseman’s contract expires this summer.
The Rangers, who entered Saturday outside of playoff position, still believe their group can make the playoffs and therefore wanted to bring in players to help down the stretch.
Parssinen, 24, is a player New York has eyed for a while — and tried to trade for previously while he was in Nashville Predators, per sources. De Haan is experienced with over 700 career NHL games and is expected to jump into the defensive rotation right away. Adam Fox is currently on injured reserve with an upper body injury, though the Rangers expect him back for their stretch run.
It was difficult for the Rangers to say goodbye to Lindgren, who they viewed as a heart-and-soul player who gave everything while playing his entire seven year career with New York. However, the Rangers were unlikely to re-sign him this summer and felt they needed to recoup compensation.
The Avalanche, meanwhile, are loading up for a playoff run after making a difficult decision to trade Mikko Rantanen to the Carolina Hurricanes.
