Three-star 2026 cornerback prospect Camdin Portis — the son of former Miami national champion and two-time NFL Pro Bowler Clinton Portis — committed to the Hurricanes Sunday evening, landing as the third prospect in Mario Cristobal’s 2026 class.
Portis, a 6-foot, 165-pound defensive back from Charlotte, North Carolina, is in his junior season at Myers Park High School. He committed to Miami over Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee and Auburn and held a handful of other FBS offers from the likes of Ole Miss, Missouri, North Carolina and NC State, among others. Portis logged 18 tackles with 10 pass breakups and a pair of interceptions in his sophomore season last fall.
With his commitment, the younger Portis is now set to follow in his father’s footsteps at the next level.
Clinton Portis spent three seasons in the Miami backfield from 1999-2001, totaling 2,523 yards and 20 touchdowns after earning a starting role at running back in his freshman season in 1999.
Portis rushed for 1,200 yards and earned Third-Team All-American honors during the 2001 season, powering the Hurricanes to a national title as a key member of one of the most dominant teams in college football history. Portis was later inducted into University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame.
From Miami, Portis went on to play nine NFL seasons, earning Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2000 and tallying 9,923 career rushing yards that rank him 33rd on the NFL’s all-time rushing list. Portis was named second-team All-Pro in 2008 and last played during the 2010 season prior to his retirement in 2012.
The younger Portis now joins ESPN Junior 300 linebacker Jordan Campbell (No. 138 in the ESPN Junior 300) and three-star dual-threat quarterback Dereon Coleman as the third member of Miami’s 2026 class. The Hurricanes’ 2025 class, which holds pledges from 11 top-300 prospects, sits at No. 12 in ESPN’s latest team rankings for the cycle released earlier this week.
Miami climbed one spot to No. 5 in the AP Top 25 Sunday afternoon and the Hurricanes are set to host Duke in Week 10 at 12 p.m. ET on ABC.
