The Anaheim Ducks are hiring Joel Quenneville as their new head coach, sources confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.
An announcement of Quenneville’s hiring and an introductory news conference are expected Thursday.
The hiring marks Quenneville’s return to the NHL after he resigned as Florida Panthers coach in October 2021. Quenneville stepped down following an independent investigation into how he and other Chicago Blackhawks executives handled a sexual assault allegation in 2010.
Quenneville was reinstated and allowed to seek an NHL job as of July.
The 66-year-old Quenneville has the second-most coaching wins in NHL history, with a record of 969-572-150 with 77 ties in 25 years with the Blackhawks, Panthers, Colorado Avalanche and St. Louis Blues. He led the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships, including in the 2009-10 season when a minor league player reported his sexual assault allegations against a former video coach to the team.
TSN first reported on the Ducks’ hiring of Quenneville.
