The Spring Fling crowned some softball champions on Thursday.
Below is how our area teams fared.
BASEBALL:
Whitwell was facing elimination against Bradford early Thursday morning and turned to their ace Jacob McCurry. McCurry didn't disappoint by pitching six innings and striking out 15 batters.
Unfortunately, the Tigers left their bats at home. The Red Devils would score three runs in the top of the eighth to eliminate Whitwell 5-2.
SOCCER:
McCallie would fall short in their bid for back-to-back titles. The Blue Tornado would tie their match with MBA, twice, sending things to a penalty shootout.
MBA would come out on top in the end to end Big Blue's chances at a repeat.
SOFTBALL:
CCS would have two chances to win the program's first-ever state championship. The Lady Chargers insisted on Wednesday that they would only need one game. They followed through.
Behind a dominant pitching performance from Kylie Black, who struck out 12, the Lady Chargers broke up a no-hit bid in the fifth. What followed was the three runs they needed to capture the crown.
CCS shuts out St. Benedict 3-0 to win the program's first-ever state championship.
Silverdale entered Thursday having to beat DCA twice to secure a three-peat. The Lady Seahawks showed heart by winning back-to-back games on Wednesday to reach the title game. That heart showed through again in game one against the Lady Wildcats.
Down to their final strike in the top of the seventh, Silverdale would rally for four runs to come from behind and beat DCA 6-3 to force a winner-take-all game two.
Game two was another battle. Down 3-1, the Lady Seahawks were able to tie the game at 3-3 in the fourth. This time though, DCA would crack through at the right time.
The Lady Wildcats would plate a run in the top of the seventh and get the game's final three outs to secure a 4-3 victory. Silverdale falls just short of a third consecutive championship.
In 4A, Walker Valley kept their aggressive mindset against Page. The same one that saw them beat the Lady Patriots on Wednesday in their opening game.
Alyssa Davenport was on another level. She hit a pair of home runs, a three-run homer in the first, followed by a two-run blast in the second to help the Lady Mustangs to a 7-2 lead.
Page would try to battle back from there but Walker Valley was able to hold on to the 10-8 win.
The Lady Mustangs are back in the state title game for the first time since 2018. They'll play for the program's first state championship on Friday at 1:30 p.m. ET against Green Hill at Blue Raider Softball Field on the campus of MTSU.
