Vols Fall to Texas in WCWS Semifinal, End Season One Win Shy of Title Series

The Tennessee Lady Vols saw their championship hopes come to an end Monday night, falling 2–0 to Texas in the Women’s College World Series semifinals.
In a game defined by pitching and defense, the Vols were held scoreless despite several opportunities to rally. Texas capitalized on two key scoring chances and made those runs stand behind a strong outing in the circle, ending Tennessee’s impressive postseason run.
“We fought hard, just came up a little short,” said head coach Karen Weekly. “This group has shown resilience, heart, and determination all season long. I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Tennessee entered the semifinals with momentum, having battled through the bracket with grit and clutch performances. But against a seasoned Texas squad making its third finals appearance in four years, the Vols couldn’t find the breakthrough hit they needed.
Despite the loss, the Lady Vols finish the season as one of the nation’s elite, marking another deep postseason run for the program and laying the groundwork for future success.
Texas advances to the best-of-three championship series later this week, while Tennessee heads home with heads held high after a memorable WCWS run.
