The Tennessee Volunteers are moving on.
Behind a high-powered offensive performance, the Vols defeated Wake Forest 11–5 on Monday to clinch a spot in the NCAA Super Regionals. The win caps off a strong showing in the Knoxville Regional and sends Tennessee into a best-of-three series against No. 3 Arkansas in Fayetteville with a trip to the College World Series on the line.
Tennessee wasted little time putting pressure on the Demon Deacons, scoring early and often to build a lead they would never relinquish. The Vols’ bats came alive with timely hitting and aggressive baserunning, while the pitching staff held Wake Forest in check through the middle innings to preserve the advantage.
“We came out with energy, and our guys executed from the first pitch,” said Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello. “This team has been focused on taking things one game at a time, and tonight they did exactly that.”
With the win, Tennessee improves its postseason record and continues its quest for a return to Omaha. The Vols will now face an Arkansas team that has been dominant at home, making the Super Regional matchup one of the most anticipated of the tournament.
The series in Fayetteville is expected to begin this weekend. Game times will be announced by the NCAA later this week.
