Arkansas’ Gage Wood Dazzles with 19-Strikeout No-Hitter at Men’s College World Series

In one of the most dominant pitching performances in college baseball history, Arkansas' Gage Wood etched his name into the record books Monday night, throwing a no-hitter and striking out 19 batters to lead the Razorbacks to a 3–0 win over Murray State in the Men’s College World Series.
The performance marked just the third no-hitter in College World Series history and the first since 1960, a 65-year drought that ended in electrifying fashion at Charles Schwab Field. Wood’s 19 strikeouts also set a new MCWS single-game record, surpassing the previous mark of 17.
“This is what you dream about as a kid,” said Wood. “To do it on this stage, in Omaha, with a chance to keep our season alive—it’s unbelievable.”
Wood faced just one batter over the minimum, issuing a single walk in the fifth inning. He retired the final 13 batters he faced, striking out the side in the ninth to seal the historic feat.
Arkansas provided just enough run support, scoring three times in the sixth inning on a pair of RBI singles and a sacrifice fly. But the night belonged to Wood, a sophomore right-hander who entered the game with a solid postseason resume and left with a legendary performance.
“This was one of the best-pitched games I’ve ever seen at any level,” said Arkansas head coach Dave Van Horn. “Gage was in total control from the first pitch.”
With the win, Arkansas advances to the next round of the College World Series, while Murray State’s Cinderella run comes to a close.
Wood’s gem now joins the ranks of Jim Ehrler (1952, Texas) and Bill Thom (1960, USC) as the only no-hitters ever thrown in the Men’s College World Series—a feat that will be remembered in Omaha for decades to come.
