Standing 7'9", Olivier Rioux Is the World's Tallest Teen and a Fascinating Basketball Talent

Gainesville, Fla. — Olivier Rioux, a 7-foot-9 freshman at the University of Florida, is officially the tallest player in college basketball history. Already a Guinness World Record holder as the world’s tallest teenager, Rioux towers over campus and garners constant attention from curious fans and students alike. A native of Quebec, Canada, he started playing basketball at age 5 and developed at IMG Academy before walking on with the 21st-ranked Gators.

Though still a developing talent, Rioux has impressed with his mobility and coordination, improving steadily since arriving in Gainesville. Coach Todd Golden sees potential in Rioux, noting flashes of dominance in practice and predicting he’ll become a fan favorite as chants for “Oli” fill the arena. His sheer size and gentle demeanor have captivated teammates, who say he embraces the spotlight with humility and humor.

Rioux wears No. 32 in honor of Magic Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal and hopes to model his game after Zach Edey and Victor Wembanyama. He can dunk without jumping, squeezes into desks and beds not built for his frame, and ducks through nearly every doorway — but he does it all with a smile. As Golden puts it, “He’s more than just a 7-9 guy.”
