The sports world saw plenty of action this week, from major league playoff clinches to local high school victories and coaching changes.
In Major League Baseball, both the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners officially secured playoff berths. The Atlanta Braves edged past the Washington Nationals 3-2 in a closely contested matchup, keeping their postseason hopes alive.
College sports also made headlines as Oklahoma State fired legendary football coach Mike Gundy, ending a 20-year tenure that saw him become one of the longest-serving coaches in FBS history.
Locally, high school sports were busy. In soccer, Rhea County defeated Cleveland 3-0, while Walker Valley dominated Ooltewah 8-2. Volleyball action saw East Hamilton and Siegel each defeat Cleveland 2-0, and in football, Cleveland Middle School swept McMinn County, with the JV team winning 36-8 and the varsity blanking their opponents 42-0.
