At the U.S. Open, American Madison Keys was upset, but Frances Tiafoe advanced to the next round. Venus Williams fell short in her comeback effort, while Carlos Alcaraz moved on.

The state high school football poll was released this morning. In Class 5A, Walker Valley checks in at number five. In 3A, Meigs County also ranks fifth. In Division II-AAA, Baylor is number one and McCallie sits at number two.

High school volleyball saw Chattanooga School for the Arts and Sciences defeat Walker Valley 2-0.

On the middle school level, Ocoee Middle’s JV football team shut out McMinn County JV 21-0. In volleyball, Lake Forest’s sixth grade team fell to East Hamilton 1-2, JV lost 0-2, and Varsity also dropped their match 0-2. Cleveland Middle tennis dominated Rhea County, with the boys winning 9-0 and the girls edging out a 5-4 victory. Cleveland Middle volleyball swept Ooltewah in both seventh and eighth grade action.
